Ancient Egypt and Florence Nightingale

Ancient Egyptians believed that you can take it with you, or at least you can have servants bring items to your tomb for you to enjoy in the afterlife. A playful hands-on activity at the Lost Egypt exhibit at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History lets you create your own version of this. As you can see in the photo above, I’ve set it up so The Bangles will bring me a kitty, some espresso, and a music player when I croak. We’re gonna have to tighten up that coffee order, though; I never drink grandes. Now, if they’d just come up with a magnetized version of a Living Will, I could get all my affairs in order.

I’d write more, but I’ve got a sick boyfriend on my hands. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen him under the weather, actually. Time to play Florence Nightingale. I once read that Ms. Nightingale kept a pet owl named Athena in her pocket. Seems like she should have had a pet nightingale, but maybe they don’t make good pets. I really have no idea, and now I am rambling and Flo would certainly not approve, having once said:

“I think one’s feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring results.”

Of course, she said that while alive. Now that she is dead, I bet she’d love it if someone brought her a trashy beach read or a book of poetry to enjoy in the afterlife.
