My 2013 A to Z blog challenge theme

Each April, bloggers from all over the world participate in the A to Z blog challenge. Many of them choose a theme to blog about, although it’s not mandatory. All you have to do is make a blog post for each letter of the alphabet in April.

This year, over 1000 bloggers are participating. This will be my first year joining in and I look forward to mixing and mingling.

The theme I’ve chosen for the 2013 A to Z blog challenge is:

Texcentricity!

In other words, I’ll post about Texan culture, icons and travel with an emphasis on quirky aspects of the Lone Star State.

I’ve not written any posts yet, but I worked my way down the alphabet and have fun ideas for most letters.

I’m stuck on a few, namely M, U and Y, but those are pretty deep into the alphabet, so hopefully I’ll come up with something by the time I get to them.

This is a blog hop!

So now that you know what I’ll be posting about, why not see what themes other bloggers have chosen for April’s A to Z blog challenge?

Hmmm… Well, I had trouble getting the Linky code for this blog hop, so if you’d like to check out other blogger’s themes, click through the list over at Mina Lobo’s blog, Some Dark Romantic

      Hi Becca T,

Thanks for dropping by. I’m off to check out your latest A to Z blogging challenge post now, too.

  2. What a fun idea for a theme! I’m looking forward to your posts. I’m one of the A-Z Minions and just wanted to stop by to say hello. I’m glad to have found your blog, it’s great to meet you. Good luck with the Challenge! :)

      Hi Julie,

Nice to meet a genuine A to Z minion. So the rumors were true – you folks do exist! (One less mystery in the world now for this blogger.) I’ll pop over to see what your theme is. This is going to be fun!

  3. This is the first year that I will be participating. I decided to do a Vlog a day to help launch my new youtube channel :) It is a thing starting April 1st! Working to get all the editing done before then.

My theme is information for writers, so covering symbols and literary craft. With a few writing exercises thrown in for good measure.

      Hi Susan,

It’s my first year, too. Vlogs, eh? Good idea for your YouTube channel. Your theme sounds great; I’ll definitely be popping by to see what you’re posting.

  4. You are an achiever! The thought of even trying this leaves me shaking. I’ll try to visit your posts when I can.

Happy Trails!! (or is that tales?)

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Heya Renee,

Thanks for popping by from #StoryDam. They actually suggest keeping the posts fairly short so that other A to Z folks can read and comment on lots of blogs each day, so that makes it a little less daunting. There’s still time for you to change your mind!

      ~Tui

  5. That sounds like a fun theme. I can’t wait to see what you came up with.

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Patricia,

I’m glad you’re taking the A to Z plunge. I’ll be cramming a bunch of posts on Sunday… So I’m kinda curious to see what I come up with, too!

  6. Cool! Never been to Texas, but met a lot of awesome storytellers from there. Cheers! Happy A to Z!

      Hi Rhonda,

While some of the Texan stereotypes rings true, I’ve been surprised at the things I have discovered about Texas since moving here nearly 4 years ago. It’s a fascinating place, that’s for sure!

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll pop by your blog now to see what you’ll be posting about.

  7. I’m glad you decided to jump in this year – it’s tough, but rewarding. I’ve only been to Texas once – a few days in Austin for a wedding. But I really enjoyed my visit, so I’ll be happy to vicariously experience more of the Lone Star State via your posts. Best of luck with it!

  8. Hmmm…would Yellow Rose of Texas help you with Y? Maybe the history of the tune?

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Mina,

Thank you! I hadn’t thought of the Yellow Rose of Texas. That’s a great idea. I will have to look into that.

      Hi Jeremy,

The Texas chainsaw massacre movie is loosely based on an incident that occurred in Wisconsin… So, probably not! Then again…your comment has made me curious about the whole thing. Hmm.. I may have to dig up something more about it and end up using it.

      Thanks for the suggestion!

      Hi Jamie,

I’m nearing on 4 years here in the Lone Star State. It’s been a lot of fun, although I wish I could turn the heat down in the summer!

Thanks for dropping by. I’m curious what you will be blogging about for the A to Z challenge.

      Hi,

Thanks for dropping by from Maple Syrup Land. Is your theme something like, “sticky situations”?

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Dani,

      Me, too. Yee haw!

Are you doing the A to Z challenge, too?

  9. What a great idea. Good luck this month. This will be my first year as well. Since I’m also judging a high school short story contest (poor planning on my part) I’ve already written my posts up through P in an effort to survive.

I’ll be sharing thoughts, details and behind the scenes info from my debut scifi fantasy novel. charitywrites.blogspot.com

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Charity,

Wow! You already wrote all the way up to P? That’s impressive! I love sci-fi and I’m curious to hear about your novel.

      Hi Syndey,

Hey! Guess you’re one of the other folks who is blogging about Texas. I’ll go check your blog out your blog. I’m about an hour west of Dallas. I really enjoy the Big D’s art district. I look forward to your posts!

      ~Tui

  11. You are the second person I have visited who is to post about Texas! There must be a lot of places in that neck of the woods to be able to name them from A to Z! Good luck!

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Carolyn!

There are a lot of towns with quirky names here in Texas. I didn’t realize there were other folks blogging about Texas from A to Z this year, too. What are you blogging about? (I’ll have to go & see now, won’t I?)

      ~Tui

  12. what a great theme! I’ll be back to discover more about Texans!

I’m going for cultural aspects too, though I’ll have a slightly different approach!

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Adriana,

  13. Hello. Just thought I would stop by to give you a wave *wave* and wish you luck with the challenge. It’s my first year doing it, so I’m quite excited. I’ve been planning my posts, and had problems with K, Y, and Z. I cheated a teeny tiny bit with K and Y, and may have to cheat again with Z, but it can’t be helped (as I want everything to fit in with my theme!)

    • mentalmosaic mentalmosaic

      Hi Rebeccah!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I think that as long as you post for each letter, you can hardly be accused of cheating. We just may have to be a bit more creative in order to work some letters into the mix!

It’s my first year for the A to Z challenge, too. I can feel the excitement building as I check out the other blogs in the “big reveal” blog hop. I think this is going to be fun!

      ~Tui
