2009 was like colorful dust on the floor

Purpleheart and Padauk sawdust

Colorful padauk and purpleheart woods brightened up the gray cement in Tex’s shop today. It really surprised me how the sawdust seemingly painted the floor. Those two sticks in the upper lefthand corner of the photo show what the exotic woods look like. They really are that colorful, even without wax or varnish. I can’t tell you what we are making because they are top secret, ultra-belated gifts for family. Yeah, we are way behind!

While I feel excited about the upcoming year, I still haven’t taken time to look back over 2009, nor have I made concrete goals for 2010 – but I really want to. I feel like a sports announcer who wants to analyze a game that turned out way differently than expected. That’s how 2009 was for me, full of surprises. I certainly did not expect to fall in love and move to Texas…

Speaking of that lovely man, it turns out Tex despises the blog pseudonym I’m using for him. I must admit, I feel smirky calling him that. I chose the name because it really doesn’t fit him at all. First off, he was raised on Long Island and his accent is much more east coast than southern drawl. Beyond that, he doesn’t wear cowboy hats, drive a pick-up, or wear bolo ties as you might envision a Tex to do. He has a penchant for Spam, though. That kinda fits. Still, until I get a new Tex-approved nickname for him, or he lets me just use his real name on here, Tex it shall be.

In Texas with an East Coast accent.

    Schmex.

    Schmex – that’s great! I think you’ve nailed it, baby! :)

  2. nice dust. I am not feeling very creative these days, but some lovely red sawdust might just help.

It’s purty dust, huh? Yeah, Tex does all the hard stuff. I just glue, sand, and sneeze for the most part… :)

  3. Tell Tex that not all folks named Tex have to drive pick-ups and wear cowboy hats. I just pictured a tall handsome guy, friendly but with a little bit of shyness and a nice smile.
Spam is great stuff and one of the things I miss because of being older and having to care about my salt intake. I still cut it up and put it in a few things, though.
I love the color of those woods, but then I am a wood freak. I could live at Home Depot in the lumber section. The smell is heavenly to me. I love working with wood.

You are spot on about Tex, except that he’s not shy at all. I am this odd mixture of intro and extrovert. Hmm… That might be something to blog about! I worry that I’ll lose my Nablopomo momentum!

I love the smell of wood, too. Tex is always having me try to identify different kinds of lumber by it’s smell. I’m getting better at it.

I’ll tell him he’s got a fellow Spam devotee out there! I think of it as something to eat when camping, but he loves to sneak it into omelets and things. One night he made Spam crepes. They were tasty! :)

  4. That’s the cutest sawdust ever! Happy creating…of wooden projects, nicknames, goals, whatever :)

I just wanted to fingerpaint in that dust, actually! And thank you; I am having fun creating. :)
