Road Trip Photos: Vehicles on a Stick

Quirky road trip themes

Every road trip I take seems to have its own unintended theme, such as witty church marquees, strange billboards, or bizarre town names. In fact, my husband and I are on a road trip right now for which the theme seems to be “Random Vehicles on a Stick.”

Here’s what we’ve seen so far:

Car on a Stick

It all started in Louisiana, when I caught sight of this Ford Fairmont lofted high into the sky as we we whizzed down the road. We weren’t at a good place to stop, so I’m not sure what this particular car was advertising.

Boat on a Stick

Not long after, we saw this aluminum boat on a pole. I think it’s advertising a shop that repairs and sells boat trailers.

Jet on a Stick

And, lastly, down in Florida my husband, Larry, and I saw this jet on a stick. Thanks to the folks at Roadside America, I was able to find information on this particular vehicle. Turns out that it’s a US Navy A4 Skyhawk training jet that was once flown by the Blue Angels.

This “jet on a stick” is located at the westbound rest area in Milton, FL on Interstate 10. We were headed east when we saw it, so maybe we’ll get better photos on our return!

8 Cars on the same stick!

My friend David Sumoflam Kravetz has a photo of 8 – yes 8!!! –  cars on the same stick over at his travel  blog: Less Beaten Paths. Sadly, even though the quirky sculpture was featured in the movie “Wayne’s World,” it was torn down in 2008.

What about you? Are there any “vehicles on a stick” near you?

  1. Who needs corn or hot dogs on a stick when you can get cars and boats and such on sticks? Taking the back roads of America will most certainly provide plenty… I have also seen tractors, semi trucks and more on sticks all around the country. Always fun to know what might appear around the corner.

Thanks for the mention in this post too Tui!! Travel safely and hurry up and get up here to Lexington for a visit!! Who knows, I may be able to show you a horse on a stick!!
