Pondering the Inflatable Elvis and Bad Realtor Headshots

kia-elvis

I promise that my blog posts will be more than just things I have seen whilst whizzing down Texan highways, but it is nearly midnight, and it is NaBloPoMo, and it’s not every day that you see a giant inflatable Elvis.

What amuses me about this one is that he looks more like an Asian Elvis impersonator than the King himself.  While I can’t say that makes me want to test-drive a Kia,  I assume it draws people in – or does it?

Ever noticed how car dealerships have a thing for inflatable objects? Do balloons and American flags truly help with car sales? Has it just become an unquestioned thing that car dealers feel compelled to do whether it works or not?

And how about realtors? Why do they so often have their photo in their advertisements? Does that really work? Does it work for other professsions, too,  like accountants? If so, why don’t accountants routinely put their faces in their advertising?

And why do I keep blogging about things I see whizzing by me on the Texan highway? Have I developed some sort of compulsion? Am I, via some Kafka-esque conduit, turning into Andy Rooney?

I must confess, gentle reader, that I have no answers to these less than searing questions. I do, however, have a link to theTop 10 Really Bad Realtor Headshots for your further contemplation.

  1. I definitely think the giant outdoor balloon helps, as if it wasn’t there, you wouldn’t be blogging that you passed a Kia dealer on the way home!

Very true, Brian! And I must confess, those big inflatables really do catch my eye! :D

  2. After reading your previous post I automatically assumed inflatable Elvis was holding a gun.

That makes so much sense, Laree’! I recently read about a study in ‘Science News’ in which people would mistake a hair dryer for a gun… Hmmm…. I will find the link and send it to you! Thanks for visiting. :)
