What is OctPoWriMo?
My pals, Morgan Dragonwillow & Julie Jordan Scot joined forces to create a month-long poetry mix and mingle called OctPoWriMo. Full details can be found here: OctPoWriMo. You can also follow the #OctPoWriMo hashtag on Twitter. Feel free to join in!
I don’t consider myself much of a poet. I’m more of a lyricist. For some reason, it’s easier for me to wax poetic when I’ve got a melody to work with. Even so, I’ve been playing around with haiku this month. Here are three I wrote over the weekend as my husband and I drove to New Orleans and back. I matched each one with a photo I snapped along the way:
Haiku #1 – Crossing the Dam
Low flying vultures
Cold enough for a beret
Fall comes to Texas
Haiku #2 – Road Trip
Shifting in my seat
Landscapes, fast food, radio
Long distance car trip
Haiku #3 – New Orleans
Lurching through neon
Bright jazz lit Cajun cocktail
French Quarter at night

As usual, I love your pictures and your words. They work so well together. I’m glad to read you! And thank YOU for telling me about Octpowrimo. I have been without my poetry for years and you helped me get it back.
