Ren Fair Redux

As I mentioned in My Big Fat Ren Fair Wedding I got married last year at a Renaissance festival down in Waxahachie, Texas. This made planning this year’s anniversary celebration pretty easy; the festival gives us a built-in party to attend each year. I also thawed out the top of our wedding cake and much to our surprise, it was still moist and tasty.

I forgot to bring my main point and shoot camera, though, so I could only take photos with my iPhone this time around. I love snapping pics with my iPhone, except that when there are no electrical outlets around, the batteries croak after roughly four hours.

Since I knew my time was limited, I went on a shutterbug frenzy when we arrived, quickly wore the battery out, then just kicked back and played with my family. My husband stayed in character all day long, putting on a Russian accent and creating a character as he went along. I was impressed! I spoke with a French accent because my phony British one didn’t jibe with my purple fairy outfit. Because we weren’t busy getting married, we were able to actually see some shows this year and goof around. It was a fun day.

Row80 Check-in

I have a couple goals for this coming week:

1. Get back into the early morning writing sessions

At the start of this Row80 round, I was getting up at 4 a.m. each morning – even weekends – to get a little writing done before work. I had some wonderful sessions, but my body refuses to adjust to getting up when it’s dark out.

I started feeling run down, so I bumped my writing time up to 5 a.m. Even so, last week, I caught a head cold and had to lay low for a few days.

I’m going to skip tomorrow’s early morning writing, too, since I will be out late. I’m going to the “American Idiot” press night showing in Dallas (whee!) which means I won’t be home until midnight, and I want to have energy to write a review the next day.

That said: I plan to hop back onto the 5 a.m. writing sessions again starting this Thursday!

2. Get prepped for the DFW Writer’s Conference

I need to get new business cards, book a hotel, hone my elevator pitch and figure out what I am going to say when I have my one-on-one consult with an agent *gulp*. I am also re-thinking my memoir’s chronology. I want the first few pages to pull people in, of course, so I’m re-thinking the point at which my book starts. I’ve given up on the idea of having it polished in time for the writer’s conference (May 19-20), but I am still going to try!

So now I wonder how everyone else’s Row80 goals are going for them. Here’s a linky you can follow to find out, too:

  1. Even with just an iphone you take the best pictures. When Em is a bit older were going to make it Scarborough and make a weekend of it. Happy Anniversary!

      Thanks, Jyllian!

I used to sneer at the thought of cell phone photography, but Instagr.am has turned me into a total iPhone addict. I love the quick, creative outlet it allows me each and every day. I love popping onto Statigram and seeing what other people have posted, as well.

Maybe you and Em can make it to Scarborough when me and my hubby are there! You are one of those internet peeps who I really want to meet IRL. :)

  2. Hubby and I were supposed to get married at the Ren Fest in Plantersville. Love the pictures. Hope you had a happy anniversary.
