IWSG: Keep on keeping on!

Tough Summer

This summer started off with a bang. My husband’s health scare turned our road trip into not just a staycation, but a full-on housecation for a few months. I’m so grateful for that backyard wading pool and all those great tools I discovered for writing in the water. Those items totally saved my summer!

Wonderful surprise

But then, some really great things began happening with my writing. First off, I was chosen to be the 2016 Writer-in-Residence for the Langdon Review. As part of my stay, I will also be having a month-long showing of my photography, and I may even release a music CD at the same time! (I wrote about that here: My Exciting News & the 2015 Langdon Review Weekend in Granbury Texas.)

I’m so excited!

But wait, there’s more!

As if that wasn’t enough, I got a call last week from Coast to Coast AM, a big time, national radio show that I have been listening to for years. They invited me on for a 2-hour interview with George Noory. (I wrote about that here: My Coast to Coast AM Interview from Miss Molly’s Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas)

Wow!

Busy month ahead

October promises to be super busy – a very FUN busy, too! I’ve got several fun events, including several paid speaking gigs (including 2 on the same day!), an ongoing weekly podcast, book signings, and other fun stuff!

So, what’s my point? I guess I’m just looking back and realizing that when it comes to writing, if you’re in it for the long haul, things will eventually start to pay off if you just keep on keeping on. Also, as cheesy as it sounds, you’ll fare better if you keep on writing through and find some way to enjoy yourself (like me and that backyard wading pool) when the ride gets bumpy!

How about you? How was your summer, writing-wise? How are things going for you now?

What is IWSG, anyway?

150-InsecureWritersSupportGroupIWSG stands for “Insecure Writers Support Group.” It’s a monthly check-in for writers of all stripes. Its creator, Alex J. Cavanaugh, describes ISWG like this:
“Purpose of IWSG: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!” – Alex J. Cavanaugh
