Have you ever been somewhere that just felt happy? That’s the feeling I got from the island of Nassau in the Bahamas. It’s hard to explain, but the happiness wasn’t coming just from me. Sure, I was happy that day, but it was hot, humid, and I didn’t feel well. Even so, that little island was the most welcoming place. There was happiness coming at me from every direction!
It’s not like we did anything particularly special that day, either. We walked all over, explored historical sites, and I drank fresh coconut milk, but as I say, there was more to it. There was happiness in the air. Everyone around me seemed happy and content, too – tourists and locals, alike.
As the day passed, I kept these thoughts to myself, but as we were leaving, my boyfriend remarked, “I don’t know what it is, but Nassau seems like a really happy place.”
So it wasn’t just me! What a relief that he felt it, too. My boyfriend is not woo-woo in the slightest. Unlike me, he’s never seen or heard a ghost, or had any truly inexplicable experiences that make a person question the boundaries of reality. So, you know, I wasn’t sure if understand what I was feeling.
It’s not like Nassau reminded me of somewhere else. I had never been to the Caribbean before. I still can’t figure out what it was about Nassau, but I would love to go back and feel it again.
Hi tui,
I’m glad Nassau made you feel happy. It must have been a bad day when I was there. All the vendors at the straw market were grumpy and it kind of turned me off. Maybe I just went in with the wrong attitude. I’m not much of a haggler. :)
Vonnie: Thanks for letting me know this. How funny! Maybe Nassau is a manic depressive place. Now, I really, really want to go back and see what kind of vibes it throws at me. ~Tui
Weird question. Just what is the orange thing in the background?
Sheila: Hmm… The orange thing is some sort of barge, I think… Not 100% sure. Hey, that’s another good reason to return! ~Tui
