Who is Patricia Lynne?

Patricia Lynne is a fellow writer who I met through a weekly writing chat on Twitter. The chat is called #StoryDam and if you wonder why I mention it so often on my blog it’s because it’s such a fun group.

In fact, if you’re a writer, feel free to join us by following the #StoryDam hashtag on Twitter each Thursday night from 8-9pm Eastern Time. Doesn’t matter what you write; we welcome all styles and genres. For more information, check out the official Story Dam website.

YA Sci Fi Author

Like me, Patricia Lynne is fascinated by haunted places, UFO sightings, the paranormal and other eerie fodder. Her stories, which she describes as, “young adult science fiction,” often feature fantasy beings struggling with human issues.

Snapshots Birthday Bash

A few weeks ago, Patricia Lynne asked folks at #StoryDam chat to help celebrate the one year anniversary of her indie release Snapshots. I don’t know the details, but apparently there were all sorts of glitches. According to Patricia:

Snapshots’ birthday is coming up. July 23rd will be one year since that horrible day where EVERYTHING went wrong. AKA release day. I want to do a take two. Let’s redo Cyc’s book release for his birthday and make it an event to remember… or at least so awesome that last year is complete wiped from memory (trust me, it was bad.)

If you scroll to the end of this post, you will find links to other blogs participating in the Snapshots Birthday Bash. I hope you will check them out! But first, here’s a guest post from Patricia Lynne and a little more information about her book, Snapshots.

Thoughts on Originality from author, Patricia Lynne

I’ve heard it said that there is no originality left. All book ideas rehash something. And that is true. You can read two books that have the same basic elements. You can love them both. Or hate the second one because you were looking for something fresh and didn’t find it.

When I was writing Snapshots, I knew I had to create a new spin on a seer character. How did I make Cyc’s gifts different from the other stories out there? I started with how his gift works. For Cyc to see the future, he has to look in both eyes. Otherwise he sees nothing.

Another variation was the storyline. I’ve read plenty of stories with a seer character who has to stop a horrible vision from happening. The plot revolves around that vision, and the seer and friends try to stop it, sometimes only to be the cause of the vision. By the time you meet Cyc, he’s learned not to mess with the future. For him, the future isn’t set. It changes and he knows better than to jump to conclusions based on what he sees. His vision isn’t a focal part of the story either; it’s a part of him and he’s adapted so it doesn’t hinder daily life.

Snapshots: Back Cover Book Blurb

Back cover book description for Snapshots, by Patricia Lynne:

My name is Cyclop Blaine and I am a real person.

“You are mine.”

I am a real person: heedless of a childhood spent under the supervision of an old man I only know as Master.

“You belong to me.”

I am a real person: regardless of my teenage years bound by violence as the adoptive son of the Victory Street Gang’s leader.

“You will obey me.”

I am a real person: despite the visions I see in others’ eyes. Snapshots of their futures.

“You will cower before me.”

I am a real person: my life will be my own. I belong to no one.

“You. Are. MINE.”

Author bio: Patricia Lynne

Patricia Lynne never set out to become a writer. In fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was more of an art and band geek. Some stories are meant to be told and now she can’t stop writing. Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo and has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow.

  1. Patricia definitely succeeded at the twist on the normal seer-type character. I thought it was very well done!

  2. Thanks for joining the party Tui. This year is going much better than last year.
