Guerilla Musicals in Public Places

See the mop in the photo above? I can just imagine a lonely janitor grabbing it, then breaking into a song and dance number about the girl he loves but is too shy to woo – can’t you? Of course, I have seen a lot of musicals this year, which could explain why my mind wandered in that direction. But still, that is one wiggy looking mop in my opinion.

I kept hoping that a guerilla theatrical production would ensue, something along the lines of The Sound of Music in Antwerp Grand Central Station, West Side Story on the streets of Cork or classical opera in a grocery store in Waterloo.

Sadly, it didn’t. I think the mop was a little disappointed, too.

If you could stage a guerilla theater project, what piece would you choose and where would you most like to perform it?

  1. The obvious answer would be Rocky Horror Picture Show in our little town Mall or on the Square (our downtown area) but really that is too easy.

I’d like to do Bollywood. Really any Bollywood, but the more fantastic the costumes and outrageous the dance moves the better. That should be on Dickson Street–the main bar/restaurant area.

Other than that…. well J and I have a weakness for My Fair Lady–so If I could do “Just you Wait” and he and his brother did “Why can’t a woman..” well that would be more than cool. That I’d do in the public library.

(I love musical theatre. I got to play Yente in high school :-)

    You have the best questions!

      Jyllian: Yes, yes, and yes!

I recently saw Rocky Horror for the first time since I was, like, 17 and was so impressed by Tim Curry! What a voice! This led to watching Legend again, since Curry is the Dark Lord in that picture. Anyway, Rocky Horror would be a wonderful flash mob type of piece.

Oh – I adore Bollywood! Some friends and I did a commercial for a casino once, and afterwards, we collectively daydreamed of running off to India to make our fortunes in Bollywood. When I lived up north, I used to pick up a Canadian station that played a lot of Bollywood tunes. I miss it.

How cool that you’ve performed in musical theatre. I’m impressed! (Well, I was already impressed…)
