Elvis Presley’s first big break

Even the king of rock and roll had to start somewhere! In the case of Elvis Presley, his first big break came when he played a gig at the Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium.

To commemorate this event, the auditorium commissioned a bronze statue of Elvis Presley, as he looked on that fateful day in October of 1954.

Prophetic introduction

A plaque below the Elvis statue features a quote from that evening, which reads, “Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve never heard of this young man before, but one day you’ll be able to tell your children and grandchildren that you heard musical history made tonight.”

They sensed something big

So, apparently, when the announcer for the Louisiana Hayride radio show introduced the young man, they were already quite aware of his talent and the impact it was going to have on the world of rock and roll!
