Join me for an A to Z Road Trip!
I’m taking you on a road trip with me by sharing travel photos for this year’s A to Z Blog Challenge. So come along as we explore some of my favorite offbeat, overlooked and just plain interesting places in Texas… and beyond!
Today is letter D:
Dinosaur Sculptures in the Elberta, Alabama Woods
An Artist’s Dream Come True
Who is Mark Cline?
Mark Cline is an artist and entertainer who lives in Virginia and specializes in quirky sculptures made out of fiberglas. In 1991, a reclusive Alabama billionaire named George Barber contacted Cline and commissioned him to create a group of life-sized dinosaurs sculptures.
Dinosaurs in the Piney Woods
I recently saw Mark Cline’s dinosaurs on a road trip through Alabama. Rather than have them all side by side, the dinosaurs are spread out along a stretch of road through the Piney Woods of Alabama.
Picnic with dinosaurs
My husband and I drove from one dinosaur the next, although if we’d had more time, we could have had a picnic and spent the afternoon walking from one dinosaur to the next!
The dinosaurs look great! Considering that they have been outside since 1991, I was really surprised to see that the sculptures are in great shape. They aren’t banged up or faded.
See for yourself:

This looks like so much fun. I would love to see the dinosaurs one day! Thanks for the post!
Only a few days until the winners will be chosen by random.org! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. :D
That is fun! I wonder how far from hubby’s parents those dinos are. Maybe next time we are down, we’ll have to go dinosaur hunting.
I love dinosaur places! I have been to them all over the country and have yet to hit this one in Alabama. Thanks for a great story and the background about the artist. Like you, I find that focusing on the artist adds a great deal to a post.
Looking forward to the rest of the alphabet Tui
