Join me for an A to Z Road Trip!
I’m taking you on a road trip with me by sharing travel photos for this year’s A to Z Blog Challenge. So come along as we explore some of my favorite offbeat, overlooked and just plain interesting places in Texas… and beyond!
Today is letter C:
Comic Con at Texas Pythian Home
First Annual Weatherford Comic Con
I had so much fun this past weekend at the first annual Weatherford Comic Con! The event took place at the Texas Pythian Home (1825 E Bankhead Dr, Weatherford, TX 76086), which is a non-profit home for children 3 to 14-years-old. The home provides a stable and healthy environment for children whose families are going through hardships, and the ultimate goal is to return the children to their families at the appropriate time.
Texas Pythian Home
The Texas Pythian Home was built in 1911 by a fraternal organization called the Knights of Pythias. As you can see from the photos, it looks like a castle. In fact, one of its nicknames is “the castle that love built.” With so much cosplay going on during the Comic Con, I must say that it reminded me of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
Womack Operations & Azle Drama Club
Weatherford Comic Con is the brainchild of Tony Myers. To bring Myers’ vision to life, Myers enlisted Womack Operations, a full service event planning company along with a slew of volunteers from the Azle High School Drama Club. Everyone did a great job!
People watching while selling books
I was there selling books, of course, with my hubby, Larry, in tow. He loves superheroes and used to run a comic book store, so he had a great time. The people-watching was phenomenal as you can see. Cosplay galore!
Deadpool Elvis
Hanging out at my book table was like having a seat at a cosplay parade. You just never knew who or what you were going to see next. At one point, a Deadpool Elvis grabbed one of my PARANORMAL TEXAS. books. All I could say was, “Thank you very much!”
Cosplay Family Fun!
Fun for all ages
I met lots of interesting folks at the Weatherford Comic Con although it wasn’t always easy to mix and mingle with them when they were in full costume. And as much as I loved seeing all the children having fun, it did my heart good to see grown adults toss aside their worries for a day to be just as playful as the kids.
Wookie Couple
This couple said they got matching Wookie outfits for Christmas one year, and that they were quite cozy to wear around the house during the winter months. According to the woman, “Our friends and family have been daring us to wear our Wookie outfits in public. Now we can say we have!”

I soooooooo want to go to a comic con and see all the cosplay.
Hello from A to Z. Back in March, I attended a Comic Con held here in Northern California. I got to hear Stan Lee speak live.
Those are some fun pics you shared. I hope you sold some books.
I love Comic Cons. I remember my first year taking my daughter down to Anime Boston. There were more people in cosplay than at Disney World. It was awesome. We’ve been to others too and my favorite ever family vacation was our trek to San Diego Comic Con. Looks like there were some great costumes at this one. Hope you did well with your book sales.
This looks like so much fun! I would have loved hanging out in your booth and watching all of the wonderful characters passing by!
Peace,

You would have loved it, Morgan! I had actually brought a book with me in case things were slow. This is their first year, after all. But the day just flew by! Thanks for dropping by. :)
