Create Quick & Easy Book Trailers with this Free iPhone App! #Ripl

Afraid to make a book trailer?

Does the thought of making a book trailer intimidate you? Well, don’t despair! I recently discovered an iPhone app that lets you create book trailers in a snap. Oddly enough, I have a bout of insomnia to thank for this discovery. A couple nights ago, I couldn’t turn my brain off, so I decided to look through my phone and delete all the apps that I don’t use.

Use a free app called Ripl

Along the way, I found an app called Ripl. I downloaded it ages ago and promptly forgot all about it. (Do you ever do that?) I couldn’t even remember what it was for! Turns out I’ve been missing out on a very fun and easy to use iPhone app. Within an hour, I created the following 30-second book trailer for my upcoming project called Understanding Cemetery Symbols: A Field Guide for Historic Graveyards. Check it out:

Lots of Royalty-Free Music

Now, the music I use for my book trailers is from my dream pop album. In other words, I composed it myself. This means, I had to spring for the paid version of Ripl in order to unlock that option, but you don’t have to. The free version of Ripl has a ton of royalty-free music clips that you can use, so you don’t have to spend a dime!

The first one is for my friend’s book. It’s an anthology of true ghost stories called Spirited Tales by my friend, Teal Gray. I’m part of Teal’s book launch team, so I thought it would be fun to whip up a quick little book trailer that gives off a creepy vibe to match the stories in her anthology. (Full disclosure: a few of the stories in the book were written by me! I’m also proud to announce the the book hit #1 in Amazon’s Unexplained Mysteries bestseller list last night! Yee haw!)

And one more book trailer for Understanding Cemetery Symbols:

Ripl is a good tool

I’m not saying any of these videos are masterpieces, but they were so much fun to make! Ripl is a great tool and I will definitely continue to play with it, insomnia or not! That said, I will still use desktop options for video creation, such as  iMovie from time to time. There are benefits to both of them.

Not just for book trailers…

In fact, I should point out that Ripl isn’t meant specifically for creating book trailers. You can use it for all sorts of things. It’s only limited by your imagination!

Easy to share on Facebook and Instagram

Another thing I love about Ripl is that the end result is so easy to share on Facebook and Instagram. You can also upload it to YouTube, as you may have noticed from the ones I shared in this post. And no, this is not a sponsored post. (Although I’d be happy to write one for Ripl if they asked!)

Have you ever made a book trailer?  Ever tried Ripl?

Have you ever made a book trailer with a cell phone app or other program? Have you ever tried Ripl? What are your recommendations? And, hey, if you end up posting something you created with Ripl (book trailer or not) let me know. I’d love to see it! (I’m @TuiSnider on Twitter, IG and Facebook!)

  1. The trailers looks nice. Sadly, I don’t have an iPhone, so not sure if they have it for whatever my phone is (I never paid attention because hubby bought it. LOL)

    • Yeah, I’m not sure if Ripl has options beyond the iPhone. Like you, I just don’t pay attention to all that stuff!
