B is for Beautiful Being

I love encouraging others!

Since I love encouraging other creatives so much, I’m sharing Homemade Creativity Memes for this year’s A to Z Blog Challenge. By “homemade” I mean that the quotes are from all over, but I took each photo with my iPhone. Here’s the one I made for today:

B is for Beautiful Being

“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” – Coco Chanel

I know, I know! You’ve been told to “be yourself” so many times that it’s become a meaningless phrase. But I love this quote from the fashion icon, Coco Chanel. Her words apply just as well to the creative process as to getting dressed in the morning.

Being yourself is one of those things that sounds simple, but can be challenging. It’s an idea worth exploring in a journal entry. When I did so, I found that the idea of “being myself” is connected to a whole bunch of other ideas, such as: accepting myself, fear of ridicule, and being willing to trust my own creative judgment.

What reaction does Coco Chanel’s quote stir in you? What does “being yourself” mean to you? How does “being yourself” impact your creative projects?

If you are on Instagram, I’d be delighted to follow you. Simply follow my photo feed (@TuiSnider) on Instagram and I’ll follow you back! Isn’t Instagram fun? I’ve gone from turning up my nose at the idea of cell phone pictures, to being an avid iPhone photographer. (I even had my first gallery show last summer!)

  1. Ahhh, being my self, to me, means not constantly thinking & worrying about what others are thinking about me. Hard for me to do but I am getting much better. Only taken me 70 years. LOL!

  2. I think the photo is wonderful and you have another great quote to go with it. Isn’t it amazing that something as simple as being yourself can often be so challenging. WeekendsInMaine

  3. I like the photo, too! — I can honestly say I truly started being myself only a couple of years ago. (That doesn’t mean I’m perfect at doing so all the time, mind you.) It’s very refreshing, and feels good when I get it right. :-)

    • I hear you, Stephanie! I’m pretty good at being myself most of the time, but I can still use a reminder here and there! Thanks for dropping by. I’ll check out your blog here soon! :D ~Tui

  4. Still trying to find out what “myself” is….. once I get that then I may be able to be it… Until then I’ll just keep searching….

    • Thank you, Fida! It’s funny, because I nearly deleted this photo at first. But then I thought, “Hey, I like this one.” Glad you like it, too! :D ~Tui

    • Thank you, Gail! And, yes, for this quote applies more to self-talk and my inner sense, even when it does affect my outfits! Off to read your blog now… Thanks for dropping by! ~Tui
