What Are Your Predictions for the New Year?

Here’s a simple idea that’s fun to do whether you plan to ring in the New Year at a wild party or at a small gathering at home: Ask people you know what they predict for the upcoming year. Make sure you write their ideas down, especially if you plan to enjoy a cocktail or two. Now all you need to do is tuck the list somewhere safe, and remember to bring it out the following year. My Friends’ Predictions from Last Year Last year, I posted some predictions for 2010 that people at my New Year’s party made. Here…

Mental Mosaic: New Tagline, New Directions for 2011

I have been blogging at Mental Mosaic since March 9th (my birthday) of 2007. I chose the name “Mental Mosaic” because I didn’t want to limit my blog topics. I also love mosaics, both figuratively and literally. I like the idea of taking one’s pieces and rearranging them into something new and even beautiful. That’s why my first tagline was: Pick up your pieces; Make something pretty. Life can shatter a person in so many ways. It’s what we do with ourselves afterwards that matters. I like that idea, don’t you? Rght away, this blog connected me to some really…

A Few of my Favorite Stargazing Things

In light of tonight’s full lunar eclipse, or perhaps I should say, ‘in shadow of,’ here are some of my favorite online apps for stargazing. Clear Dark Sky Attilla Danko created a wonderful tool called the Clear Sky Chart, which quickly helps you find the perfect place in your area for stargazing. Simply enter the coordinates of your locale, and Danko’s graph shows you what sort of viewing conditions to expect over the next 48 hours. From Danko’s bio, he seems like a really cool guy, too. Wheel of Stars Jim Bumgardner created a fascinating art-meets-science piece he calls, Wheel…

Reverb 10: Falling back in touch with my wife-in-law

Today’s post was triggered by the following Reverb 10 prompt, which comes from Martha Mihalick December 16 – Friendship How has a friend changed you or your perspective on the world this year? Was this change gradual, or a sudden burst? I recently spent a couple hours talking to my wife-in-law on the phone. What’s a wife-in-law, you ask? Simply put, a wife-in-law is the person who at one time was married to the same guy you are, or were. She and I coined that term one day when trying to explain to someone how we are related. People are…

Zombie Christmas: In cyberspace, everyone can hear you scream

You know the old tagline from the movie Alien, “In space no one can hear you scream”? Personally, I think one of the best things about the internet is that: In cyberspace, everyone can hear you scream – especially if you use all caps! Speaking of screams, I’ve been musing about zombies lately. Heck- who doesn’t this time of year? The folks who run Zombie Christmas have created a site that’s chock full of the undead, including zombie holiday music. Another person with zombies on the brain this holiday season is Judie (who I found from the NaBloPoMo December blog…

Reverb 10: Lesson Learned & Being Effective

Today’s Tara Weaver who wrote the book, The Butcher and the Vegetarian: One Woman’s Romp Through a World of Men, Meat, and Moral Crisis. (Heck of a title, eh?) What was the best thing you learned about yourself this past year? And how will you apply that lesson going forward? While I am not sure what the most important thing I learned about myself this year is, I have learned something lately from these Reverb 10 prompts: For some reason, when I reflect upon myself, the bad is much easier for me to see than the good. Yikes! I have…
