Nearly turning into a pumpkin tonight

I have less than half an hour to get my NaBloPoMo post up, or else I’ll turn into a Nablo-pumpkin. Funny how the lighting looks so autumnal in today’s shot. It was well over 100 degrees the day we visited that garden shop. Last night, we saw Cirque de la Symphonie in Fort Worth. I posted a review over at iStopover.com Magazine, in case you want to know more about it. Here’s the short version: it was fun! Tonight, we checked out the after hours event at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. It was an Egyptian-themed evening,…

The Secret of Huge Eggs and Ginger Tea

I just realized that if I don’t hurry up and post something right now,  I won’t get anything posted today.  I don’t want to break the NaBloPoMo posting momentum by dropping the ball now. I don’t want to drop any huge eggs, either, since – as today’s photo illustrates – even big eggs shatter when you drop them on the floor. Let that be a warning to you all! I just realized that if I don’t hurry up and post something right now,  I won’t get anything posted today.  I don’t want to break the NaBloPoMo posting momentum by dropping the…

What exactly is your culture?

New kids on the blog: A fun part of NaBloPoMo is making a daily cruise of the NaBloPoMo November blog roll to find new web sites to read.  One interesting blog I found this year is called In An Opal-Hearted Country and is written by an American expat living in Australia who signs her posts, “C. in Oz.” In her recent entry, Mr. Ed and Other Things I Learned From the Melbourne Cup, C. discusses how living in another country has made her think about the concept of culture. After hearing Christian Lander from Stuff White People Like speak, C.…

Cross Dressing Cow Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness

NaBloPoMo Day 3: On a recent outting, I spotted a Pepto Bismol colored cow statue standing by a shop. Took me a moment to realize that the words on its legs read, “Hope,” not, “Hype.” On closer inspection, I realized the fiberglass bovine was there to promote breast cancer awareness; you know: breasts, cows, milk. It’s all very stream of consciousness, right? I get the connection. What I don’t get is that the cow in question has no udders. Sadly, the Susan Komen office was not open, so there was no one to pester for the train of thought behind…

NaBloPoMo Day 2 – Brrrrrrrr!

This morning, I felt something I haven’t felt in a long time: cold! Most mornings, I hop out of bed, and by the time I’m brushing my teeth, I feel the first trickle of sweat running down my back. This morning, I didn’t want to get out from under the covers. Such a change! After months of brain melting heat, today’s chill is disorienting. I am so out of practice with this temperature that I barely knew how to dress. It took a while to dig up foreign wardrobe items, stuff like long pants, a sweater, and – gasp –…

NaBloPoMo: Here we go again for 2010!

It’s November, which in the blogosphere means that it’s time for the annual blogging marathon known as National Blog Posting Month – NaBloPoMo for short. I chose this photo because I’m using NaBloPoMo as an incentive to sweep the cobwebs off this blog and start posting on a regular basis again.  I’ve been doing NaBloPoMo for a few years now, and it’s so fun. Not only do I meet new people, but I get to know people in my blog roll even better during November. Even so, I confess that NaBlo snuck up on me this year, which is why…
