Happy Hour

Yes, H is for Happy Hour in London – which, according to the chart in my second photo, appears to be 24/7. Indeed, as I tap the keyboard for this particular A to Z entry, I see that I should be imbibing a “Fancy Smile.”

What is the proper cocktail for you at this moment?

Hendrick’s Gin

I’m not much of a drinker, but I am a sucker for festive, foo-foo beverages. Gimme a tissue paper parasol, a skewer of fruit, or a plastic monkey hanging off my glass, and I’m happy. As a former coffeehouse owner and recovering barista, I had to order the espresso martini which you see above. It did not disappoint!

Gin and tonics also have a special place in my heart because my dad makes a wicked one. It’s become a ritual when I visit my parents to sit out on their deck, sip one of dad’s G&T’s, and chit-chat while the sun sets. Bliss! Unlike the gin and tonic pictured here, Dad puts limes in his. With Hendrick’s Gin, however, a cucumber slice is the traditional additive. As odd as it sounds, it really works. Tasty!

Happy Anniversary

Y’know, I just realized that I could have used “H is for Happy Anniversary” since my husband and I celebrate 3 years of marriage on April 9th. Whee! We were married at a Scarborough Renaissance Festival over in Waxahachie, Texas. I dressed as a purple fairy as you can see in the post My Big Fat Ren Fair Wedding.

Hemingway Cats

I also could have gone with H is for Hemingway Cats because the story behind them is so interesting, and Key West is literally crawling with them… but I didn’t! Ha!

  1. I’m not much for drinking, either, but I agree–you can’t beat a girlie drink on the beach. Can never resist a good bellini or a pina colada.

  2. Oh boy, I’m just getting around to folks near me…I sort of started jumping all over this list. I was excited to read this post, as I enjoy Happy Hour quite a bit as well : ) I love Kamikaze’s and Caipirinha’s — yum, limey! Oh, and Happy Anniversary a day late : ) Hope it was fantastic!

    • Tui Snider Tui Snider

Hi R Scott! For some reason, I always seem to retain the wacky, trivia stuff more than anything else! :D

  7. I like frou-frou drinks too. If it doesn’t taste like alcohol, I’ll drink it!

    • Tui Snider Tui Snider

Hi Patricia, Yup! That about sums it up. I don’t want it to taste boozy. I also want it to look festive. :D

  8. Great post. I love gin and tonics and have always used a lime but I will have to try cucumber slices. Thanks for the timetable. I could see this coming in very handy on my upcoming vacation.

    • Tui Snider Tui Snider

Hi Kathryn, The cucumber slice is specifically for Hendrick’s Gin, although I don’t remember why now! Still, I be it would be good with regular gin, too. :D

  9. Happy to have found your Happy Hour blogpost! I’m sure there’s a snifter missing from that toper’s timetable.

    • Tui Snider Tui Snider

Hi Anabel, I think they need to add names for things on the half-hour, as well. :D

  10. These are some good photos for Happy Hour. A 24/7 Happy Hour! Yikes!
    Aloha from Maui…

    • Tui Snider Tui Snider

Hi Courtney! Yeah, I don’t even like creamers that simulate boozy flavors in my coffee in the morning (like Irish Cream, for instance.) :D

    • Tui Snider Tui Snider

I’m not sure what or who “Toper” is, are you? I wonder if it means “drinker”? Fun stuff, though! :D
