T is for Tiki Bar in Miami

Mai Kai Tiki Bar & Polynesian Dance Show If you are ever in Miami, I highly recommend checking out the Mai Kai Restaurant, an authentic old-style Tiki bar that has been around since 1956. If you are a retro-enthusiast, you will really get a kick out of this place and the slice of a by-gone era that it provides. And, yes, the Polynesian Dance Show is totally worth it! Of course, it’s fun to just pop in for a drink because the ambiance is great. Even the bathrooms were full of carved wood and other decorative touches. I know I…

S is for Swans at Sunset in London

Strolling by the River I try to visit London at least once a year because that is where my step-daughter lives. We don’t always do the traditional touristy stuff, but we do always take a walk along the River Thames. These shots were taken last fall as we walked home after a meal at a riverside pub. I was still pretty jet-lagged, so even now the whole thing feels a bit like a dream! Plus, I always forget how big swans actually are. Thank goodness they are friendly because if they wanted to attack, it would be pretty scary. I’m…

R is for Reflections

Relaxing with Reflections I find photographing reflections enjoyable and meditative. It helps me reflect on things – such as why I enjoy cheesy puns so much… Seriously, though, there’s a drought here in north Texas, so anytime it rains, it’s cause for celebration. That first picture was taken after a heavy rain last month, when our oak trees were still bare. Now, they are leafing out. The second photo is one I took while spacing out, staring at the bubbles in our aquarium. I like to call it my “think tank.” The third photos was taken while visiting the Fort…

Q is for Quickly Captured Shadows

Lingering in Moments Anais Nin once wrote that, “We write to taste life twice.” I feel the same about photography. A photo snapped at the right time lets you linger in an otherwise fleeting moment. It lets you enjoy something that no longer exists. Each of these shots was taken in a busy environment, but I was lucky enough to grab the light and shadow before it escaped. These moments are now mine to savor and explore through words and imagination. Follow me on Instagram & I’ll follow you back! I’ve gone from turning up my nose at the idea…

P is for Pisa’s Leaning Tower

Embracing my Dork Side Call me cheesy, but I just had to get the cliche photo where it looks like I’m holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa when we visited Italy last year. I like how the photo came out so that it kinda looks like there’s a wee little guy picking my pocket, or holding *me* up, too. Have you ever indulged in taking cheesy tourist photos of yourself? I say, why not? If it makes you smile, then so what? Embrace your dork side! Follow me on Instagram & I’ll follow you back! I’ve gone from turning…

O is for One Arm Dove Hunt

The One Arm Dove Hunt in Olney, Texas In 1972, while hanging out at the local drugstore, Olney residents, Jack Northrup and Jack Bishop, decided to have a little fun with strangers seated nearby who were obviously eavesdropping on them. I should add that around the town of Olney, Northrup and Bishop are known as the “One Armed Jacks” since both men are missing upper-limbs. It all started with a joke… The two Jacks began describing how much they enjoy hunting with bolt-action rifles and muzzle-loaded shotguns. Although they kept straight faces, this was a joke; it’s impossible to shoot…
