2013 Oscar Watching Party at The Modern in Fort Worth, Texas

Better than sitting at home Last Sunday, DFW.com, the Modern Art Museum and Lone Star Film Society hosted their 5th annual Oscar Watching Party at the Modern in Fort Worth, Texas. (While I missed last year’s event, I blogged about the 3rd annual shindig here.) Walk the Red Carpet While I’ve rarely sat through an entire Oscar awards show on TV, I love attending this yearly party. For one thing, it’s free! For another, everyone gets to walk the red carpet when they arrive. They interview you, snap your photo and ask you questions such as who you think will…

iPhone Photo Essay: Chandor Gardens, the Secret Gardens of Weatherford, Texas

Best Kept Secret in Weatherford, Texas Twenty-five miles west of Fort Worth lies a beautifully landscaped garden in the Historic District of Weatherford, Texas. This lush oasis was created by the internationally renowned portrait artist, Douglas Chandor, and his wife, Ina. Chandor Gardens is such an unspoiled treasure that, I must confess, part of me selfishly wanted to keep it as my own little secret garden rather than write up this iPhone photo essay. At any rate, while researching this article, I discovered that the historical romance author, Caroline Clemmons, recently blogged about this site, too. Check out her post…

Circular Contrail near Fort Worth, Texas

It looked like someone was playing celestial tic-tac-toe last week here in north Texas. The first lines I saw in the sky on the morning of April 6, 2012 were some really big X’s. That was around 9:00 a.m. I meant to take a photo of them, but got distracted. (I was at work, so most likely the phone rang and drew me back into the office.) Around 10:15 a.m. I popped out of the office and noticed a big circular contrail in the sky. This time I snapped a couple of photos with my iPhone camera. I zoomed in…

Severe Weather Escapade in Dallas – Fort Worth, Texas

Yesterday, a dozen or so tornadoes touched down here in the Dallas – Fort Worth region of north Texas. It was scary! My husband, Larry, and I were driving to lunch when I began to realize we were in for severe weather. My first clue was an ominous deep gray sky to the east of us contrasted by bright sun to the west. My second clue came after we ordered our food at the restaurant. I glanced up at the TV and saw an incredible weather video in which semi-trucks and trailers were flung around like toys in Lancaster, a…

2011 Oscar Party in Fort Worth, Texas

The 2011 Oscar Awards Ceremony was broadly panned by critics and fans, and if I had stayed home to watch it, I might have found it lackluster, too. Instead, my boyfriend and I attended the free Oscar Party at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (or simply “The Modern,” as folks around here call it) and had a great time. First off, the people-watching was top notch. Not only were there snappy tuxedos and glittering gowns galore, but many people came in character. I spotted a gaggle of Black Swans, and several Alice in Wonderland characters, as well as…
