IWSG: Where’s my Promo & Marketing Fairy?

IWSG Check-in

IWSG stands for “Insecure Writers Support Group.” It’s a monthly check-in for writers of all stripes. Its creator, Alex J. Cavanaugh, describes ISWG like this:

“Purpose of IWSG: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!” – Alex J. Cavanaugh

Promo & Marketing Fairy

This past month my writing insecurity has fixated on the promo and marketing side of being an indie author. Not only do I fret about overlooking something easy and obvious, but I’ve taken in so much new info that my head is spinning.

It’s overwhelming!

I secretly wish that a promo and marketing fairy would flutter by and sprinkle magical dust on the subject. So far, the only dust around here is the type that makes you sneeze!

How’s this strategy sound?

Although it may sound counterintuitive, I’ve decided to limit the time I spend learning about indie author promo and marketing. I’m not going to even think about that stuff until I hit my daily word count and writing goals. Once those goals are met, I will let myself dig into the overwhelming mound of info online and carefully sift through it.

Does that sound sane to you? How do you deal with indie author promo and marketing stuff, and info-overload, in general?
