OK, so it would not be easy to fry an egg on the sidewalk today, but it sure was easy during the summer here in Texas. And no, we didn’t fry the eggs directly on the pavement – we wanted to eat them, after all!
Did you know that a pan only has to be 150 degrees Fahrenheit to cook an egg? When it is 100+ degrees outside, you don’t have to try very hard to get that egg sizzling.
We actually fried eggs in two different ways, as you can see from the photos. My fiance cooked his egg in a cast iron skillet on the steps. He used a huge magnifying glass on that egg, though, which somehow felt like cheating.
We cooked the other egg in a cardboard box lined with tin foil and covered in plastic wrap. Cooking that one was super easy. All we had to do was tilt it so that the sun was directly on it, and before long the white starting turning, well, white.
Too bad we waited until the end of summer to discover how easy it is to cook with the sun in Texas. I bet we could cook all sorts of things. Next year!
