My ROW80 Check in
If it were Thursday, I’d say that it must be Belgium, but since it’s Wednesday, all of us folks afflicted with writerly obsessions know that it is, in fact, time for a #ROW80 check-in!
I got sick and missed my day job yesterday. As a result, my recollections of yesterday are a blurry mixture of, “Yippee! I’m home writing,” and “Ugh, I need to run to the bathroom – again!”
Even so, yesterday was fun, aside from all the reminders of my corporeal existence.
Anyway, here’s how my week went from a Row80 perspective.
My ROW80 Round 3 Goals:
ROW80 Check-ins: My goal: I will post at least twice a week on this blog – hopefully more. One post, of course, will be my ROW80 check-in. The other will be whatever I’m inspired to crank out on Monday, which is my day off.
Hey, hey! I posted on Monday, and here I am posting on Wednesday, too. Phew!
Candace Havens Fast Draft: My goal: I found Ms. Havens mighty inspiring at the classes she taught at the DFW Writer’s Conference back in May. As a result, I’ve signed up for her Fast Draft class. This means I’ll be writing 5,000 words per day for the next two weeks, then spending the following two weeks revising that mess of words. I even managed to lure my two uber-inspirational writing pals, Morgan Dragonwillow and Nicole Rivera, to take the Fast Draft plunge with me. I’m so excited!
Morgan Dragonwillow and Nicole Rivera are taking Candace Havens Fast Draft class with me and I am so dang happy! I love having writer pals in my life, folks who *get* that side of me.
The whole Fast Draft group is wonderful. It means so much to me to have a herd of writers stampeding along with me – yee haw!
I’m somehow managing to keep up with my 5000 words per day Fast Draft goal (shitty first draft, anyone?) but I’ve been slacking on the check ins with the Fast Draft group.
ROW80 commenting: My goal: I will comment on at least 10 other ROW80 participant’s blogs each Monday. I will also promote posts that I find helpful and inspiring throughout the week.
I commented on a bunch of Row80 blogs, but lost count of how many. I’m pretty sure that I met my goal of 10 blogs, at least. I have found that if I keep the Linky List up while I’m at work, I can comment on blogs while I’m hold at my day job. I have also made a point to re-tweet posts I find interesting.
I did, however, slack on my goals of answering comments on this blog, and commenting on my commenters. That will be my goal for tomorrow while I’m at my day job.
Texas Day Trips: My goal: Sunday is my big play-day. Sunday is when the hubby and I drive around the Lone Star state looking for interesting things to photograph, eat and share with others. Not only is this good research for writing projects, but it’s also a healthy break from our day jobs and drudgery in general.
Last Sunday’s north Texas road trip took the hubby and me to an alien gravesite in Aurora, Texas and the Second Monday Trade Days in Bowie, Texas (home of the bowie knife.)
The alien gravesite really stirred my creative imagination and I blogged about it on Monday in my post entitled, Alien Gravesite in Aurora Cemetery: The Roswell of Texas? In fact, the experience gave me a wee little epiphany about writing. Scroll to the bottom of the post to see what I mean.
StoryDam Chat: My goal: I will continue to lead #StoryDam chat from 8-9pm CST on Twitter each Thursday evening. If you’re a writer, please join us. It’s a fun, friendly group and it always leaves me smiling and inspired.
I managed to lead last week’s chat and plan to do so tomorrow evening, as well. It is such a fun group of writers.
Speaking of writers, here are links to all the other Row80 participants. Check them out:
