Catch Me on the Radio: Close to Death with Selena Roane

Radio Host: Selena Roane Tonight I’m going to be a guest on a really interesting paranormal radio show! The program is called Close to Death and it’s hosted by the fabulous Selena Roane. I met Selena at the 2014 Granbury Paranormal Expo, where she gave an excellent presentation on her journey as an empath and all the ups, downs, and confusion it has caused in her life. She also played one of the best EVP’s I have heard for the audience. (None of that indecipherable staticky stuff that people pass off as electronic voice phenomenon so often. This EVP was…

Want a Road Trip Postcard from Me?

Do you love postcards, too? I love getting postcards from friends. If they’re funny or interesting, I either tack ’em to the wall for travel inspiration or I use them for bookmarks. Plus, it’s such a pleasant surprise to get something in the mail besides a bill – and to see someone’s actual handwriting! So, here’s the deal: I’m taking a writing research trip soon and would be delighted to send some postcards to friends along the way. Any takers? How to get a postcard If you’d like a quirky postcard from my upcoming road trip, all you have to…

IWSG: How I Became a Fan of my Fan!

Making friends through writing I’ve been writing for decades, and getting paid for travel articles since 2006, but it wasn’t until I published Unexpected Texas that my writing began directly connecting me with readers. Sure, I knew people read my articles, but it ended there. I never made friends with any of my readers. Meeting people because of things I’d written? And not just online, but meeting them in person?!? As I said, this never happened when I was simply writing magazine articles! Sure, articles paid well, but even with a byline, it felt rather anonymous… like a message in a…

Halloween Trick-or-Treat Blog Hop: Get Your Goodies Here!

Halloween is a Big Deal at Castle Azle I must confess that after living all over the place, including Belgium, Italy, and a tiny island with a population of 7, Texas gave me a hefty dose of culture shock. In fact, every time I remember my first Texan-style Halloween, I laugh. The year was 2009 and I had just moved in with my then-boyfriend-now-husband, Larry. We were out shopping when Larry mentioned needing candy for trick-or-treaters. I promptly spotted a bag of mini candy bars and tossed it in our cart. It was a big bag, too, 5 pounds, which…

Trick-or-Treating for Books! Have you ever wanted to go trick-or-treating for books instead of candy? Well, now you can! A couple weeks ago my friend, Patricia Lynne had a brainstorm and devised a clever way for authors to give out books and book-related goodies on Halloween. Last I checked, 20 authors had signed up for her Trick-or-Treat Book Blog Hop, and I bet more will be added as the big day approaches. That’s a whole lot of sugar-free fun! (Oh, and as you may have guessed, it was Patty’s blog hop that inspired my own Paranormal Texas Book Release Trick-or-Treat…

Is there Paranormal Evidence in Paranormal Texas?

Paranormal Activity While Researching Paranormal Texas Since my latest book, Paranormal Texas, is a travel guide to haunted places, readers often ask if I saw any ghosts, or had any paranormal experiences while researching it. I visited a lot of real life haunted places while researching Paranormal Texas. I went to seances and ghost hunts, I roamed through haunted cemeteries and parks, I stayed at haunted hotels, and even dined at haunted restaurants. While I certainly had some subjective experiences while investigating all these paranormal hot spots here in the Dallas – Fort Worth region of Texas, I can’t claim…

What’s in Tui Snider’s Book, Paranormal Texas?

What’s in Paranormal Texas? Paranormal Texas is an entertaining travel guide to real haunted places near Dallas and Fort Worth. It includes the haunted history behind these true ghost stories, as well as directions for those who want to see them in person. While Paranormal Texas is chock full of well-known Texas ghost stories, it also includes a bunch of haunted places in Texas that are not in most other books. As with my first book, Unexpected Texas, I went out of my way (often, literally!) to find quirky, offbeat and overlooked sites to share with readers, including: *Serial Killer’s…

Real Ghost Photo in a Historic Victorian Home, or…?

Is This a Real Ghost Photo? See that mist in the photo above? Do you think it could be a ghost? Folks often tell me they see a ghost in that picture, but interpretations vary. Some see a woman in a gown. Others see a woman’s face peering out from beneath a veil. Depending on which monitor I view the photo on, I see different things, too! About this Ghost Photo I snapped this picture a few years ago during a tea party at a historic Victorian home in Port Townsend, Washington. No one was smoking, but I had a…

Why Read Paranormal Texas?

Why read Paranormal Texas? Sure, there are other books about real haunted places in Texas – I should know, my bookshelves are crowded with them! So, what makes Paranormal Texas different? Overlooked Haunted Places First off, Paranormal Texas includes a bunch of haunted places in Texas that are not in most other books. As with my first book, Unexpected Texas, I went out of my way (often, literally!) to find quirky, offbeat and overlooked sites. For instance, I haven’t seen Moxley Manor (a haunted attraction that may truly be haunted) mentioned in any other books about real haunted places in…

Quirky Facts about the Ice Bucket Challenge

Quirky Facts about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge I was recently nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by fellow Texas writer, Brandy Herr, author of Haunted Granbury. The way the challenge goes, after being nominated you are supposed to either dump a bucket of ice over your head, then donate $10 to the ALS charity of your choice (I donated here) or decline the ice, and donate $100. Although I was traveling and unable to respond right away, I chose the former. Even so, my ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was rather pitiful. (Scroll down for details and to see…
