Unexpected Texas Book Release Blog Tour Coming Soon!

Book Release Blog Tour After formatting, setting up the Unexpected Texas Book Release Blog Tour was the next big thing on my self-publishing to-do list. I’m happy to report that virtual book tour is shaping up just fine. It’s gonna be fun, too: I’m giving away free copies of my book along with other prizes every single day of the tour. Then, on the final blog tour day ( Monday, March 10, 2014) the eBook version of Unexpected Texas will be free on Amazon. Talented Bloggers & Fun Prizes Here’s a linky list arranged “Brady Bunch” style so you can…

Are Pick-up Trucks the State Vehicle of Texas?

Here in Texas we have everything from an official state cooking vessel (Dutch oven) to an official state dinosaur (Pauluxysauras Jonesi.) We don’t yet have an official state vehicle, but if we did, it would surely be the pick-up truck. One in four Texans owns a pick-up truck, and they are often customized. Pick-ups aren’t just for macho men, either. In my neighborhood, I sometimes see a bright pink one with “Daddy’s Girl” emblazoned across the back window. My favorite local customized truck, however, sports a purple and green Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme. (Every time I see it drive…

Guest Post: All About Jackalopes

Enjoy this Guest Post by David “Sumoflam” Kravetz I rarely have guest posts, but here you go! I’ve been so busy getting my quirky Texas travel guide together that I asked the prolific traveler/photographer and all-around nice guy, David “Sumoflam” Kravetz if he could put together a Jackalope photo essay. I hope you enjoy it: Jackalope Spotting – a fun road trip tradition So, you are a fan of the Jackalope? Having traveled all over the country I have seen my share of Jackalopes…you know, the furry rabbit looking creatures with antelope (and sometimes deer) antlers! My first inkling of…

Paperback Proofs & Fun with Formatting – Not!

Who knew UPS had a stealth division? Last Wednesday, I ordered proofs for my quirky travel guide Unexpected Texas and I have been patiently awaiting their arrival ever since. Until yesterday, that is, when I decided to look up the tracking info. That’s when all the impatience began! You see, much to my delight, the package was marked “out for delivery.” Squeee! From that point on, my ears became fine-tuned. Who knew I was so intimately acquainted with the specific sounds UPS vans make? They came down our street twice yesterday, and both times they delivered things to my neighbors.…

Unexpected Texas: Book Cover Reveal

Book Cover Reveal OK… Here is *basically* what the front and back covers of my paperback will look like. I’ve made a few changes, actually, since these graphics were made, but I am posting them anyway so you can get a general idea of what the look and feel will be for my upcoming quirky travel book: Unexpected Texas. Self-Publishing Update I’ve been cranking away, fussing with book formatting all week. Who knew that the hardest part of all would be getting page numbers set up properly in MS Word? I even lost sleep over the matter! But… I’ll save…

Cowtown’s Rooftop Jackalope

What is a Jackalope? Jackalopes are mythical rabbit/antelope hybrids that frequently appear in folk tales from the southwestern United States. Why is there a Jackalope in Fort Worth, Texas? In the 1980’s, Fort Worth artist Nancy Lamb was commissioned to create an eight foot tall jackalope sculpture for a garden and pottery shop. Rooftop Jackalope Address Although the Jackalope Store has since gone under, its unique mascot remains on the roof of what is now a car dealership. I always keep an eye out for it when driving through town. If you’re ever in north Texas and would like to…
